Olympic gold medalist and Bahamian hero Chris “Fireman” Brown returned home to a warm welcome this week when he made a special appearance at BOB’s Village Road Branch on Thursday, May 22.
The Golden Knight experienced an outpouring of love and well wishes from BOB customers and the general public who lined up to meet him and obtain autographed photos and signed BOB paraphernalia from one of the county’s most well-known and admired athletes. Fans included people from all walks of life; men women and children, not least among them The Hon. Arthur D. Hanna, former Governor General of The Bahamas.
The 400 meter sprinter who recently won silver at the World Indoor Championships in Poland in March and another gold medal in the 4 x 400m relay with his fellow Golden Knights at the Penn Relays in April was overwhelmed by the encouragement he received.
‘It is a real blessing to have such great support from my fellow Bahamians. I thank God for enabling me to succeed in track and field to the extent that I have and I believe that as long as I continue to put Him first and give Him the glory He will give me continued success,” Chris Brown said.
He added that he appreciated the invitation from Bank of The Bahamas Limited to appear at the branch as well as other opportunities the Bank has provided for him from signing him to represent products such as BOB Express ATMs to sponsoring his launch of the first Chris Brown Bahamas Invitational Meet last year.
“Bank of The Bahamas has been there for me from the beginning – even before the team won the 4x400 in London. Now when I travel, people are telling me they’ve been to Nassau and seen my picture all over with BOB and they say ‘Man, you must be important to be linked with the Bank of The Bahamas.’ They’re putting it up on Facebook and sharing it. It’s gotten word about me around, the U.S., Europe, all over. I’m grateful and I am proud to be part of the BOB family,” Chris said.”
So what’s next for Chris Brown? He is looking forward to competing against other world class athletes before thousands of spectators at the IAAF World Relays this weekend at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau.
“When I’m competing in other countries all over the world everyone else usually has their own cheering squad. This time it will be nice to hear Bahamians cheering us on so I’m looking forward to that home court advantage,” Mr. Brown said.
